This month I wanted to something a little different. Last year I wrote a poem about a dog that I had owned and died. So in an effort to be more open, here it is.
Dear Fuzzy Yellow Ball, how are you this morning?
I noticed you stole mom’s bed and my covers.
Did you sleep well, no nightmares to retell?
Don’t worry you furry head; it’s just a little rain at the window
Can I get you anything before I get dressed?
Here, let me get that spot that you can’t itch.
When did you get over to the door?
I have your leash, let’s get this day moving.
Dear Fuzzy Yellow Ball, can you believe it’s been a month
To be honest I never thought I’d see you this much.
What do you want for our midday snack?
No it isn’t time for lunch or for dinner.
Is there any point when you’ll leave me alone?
Well that’s fine, I wanted cuddles with you too.
Who Is that coming in this evening?
Mom is home and she is happy to see you.
Dear Fuzzy Yellow Ball, when did you get to be so tall?
Your mom and I love you more than you know.
Did you see the way she looked at me?
I can’t always believe she’s mine either.
Can you me screwing this up again?
I hope to see you soon.
How come we won’t face this moment?
There is nothing we can do, please forgive your mom and me.
Dear Fuzzy Yellow Ball, why can’t you come when we call?
